EV News – What’s Hot in the Electric Vehicle World

EV News is your source for all things electric cars, with the latest updates on the newest electric models to hit the market. From the greenest SUVs to the most high-performance EVs, we’ll keep you updated on all of the upcoming models you need to know about.

Electrification is moving fast. Automakers have set aggressive electrification targets, and they’re already converting some or all of their existing vehicles into electric ones. EVs are also changing how we move around our cities. In addition to reducing our carbon footprints, they’re helping us save money and make it easier to navigate busy traffic.

We’re also seeing more people take the plunge and buy their first EV, whether it’s an electric sedan or a family-friendly crossover. EVs are more affordable than you might think, too. And, they’re getting faster and more capable as battery technology advances.

In fact, according to a new survey, more Americans would prefer an all-electric vehicle over a gas-powered one. CBS News’ Medora Lee and USA Today’s Ash-har Quraishi discussed the findings with automotive expert Mark Reuss and GM’s chief safety engineer Joe McLaine.

General Motors is working on an updated Bolt EV that’s likely to be called the Electra E5. It’ll be built on GM’s versatile Ultium platform and share some similarities with Cadillac’s upcoming electric flagship, the Celestiq. The Electra E5 should offer 340 horsepower and more than 300 miles of driving range on a single charge.

Ford’s secretive “Skunkworks” team has been tinkering with an affordable EV platform it plans to roll out in 2024. Rivian and Tesla will be competing with it, but Ford believes it can offer a better price and build more units than either of those companies.

We’re also seeing a boom in all-electric pickup trucks. Several manufacturers are developing a new generation of these vehicles with longer battery ranges and more practical cargo space than their gas-powered counterparts.

Lastly, we’re starting to see more people use electric scooters as their main mode of transportation. We’re even starting to see some of them used as taxis.

An air taxi that can fly, land and park itself just completed a forward flight, setting a distance record for a flying EV. The Luft Pinoy combines an electric minivan with a hydrogen-powered VTOL system to create a practical, island-hopping vehicle. And, researchers have found a way to incorporate gel into batteries to make them go much farther on a charge.
